Mars doesn’t have much of an atmosphere, but the magnetic field plays a large role in atmospheric escape (when gases leave the atmosphere for outer space!) Mars does experience aurorae similar to Earth’s, but the process that creates them is slightly different because Mars lacks a global magnetic field, like Earth. Instead, the magnetic field is strong only in small areas of the Southern Hemisphere.
